Japan Port Industry Co., Ltd. to Rebuild Kobe Uozaki Refrigerated Warehouse

Kamigumi subsidiary Japan Port Industry Co., Ltd. (JPI) has announced plans to rebuild the Kobe Uozaki Refrigerated Warehouse (Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture).

Plans call for the updated warehouse to begin operating in December 2022. The aging facility will be rebuilt to provide a stable supply of sophisticated temperature-controlled storage services in response to anticipated growth in demand for refrigeration and freezer warehouses.

As with the Kobe Sumiyoshi Refrigerated Warehouse completed last year (see the November 16, 2020 "Japan Port Industry Completes Construction of New Warehouse" news release), the updated warehouse will feature freezer and refrigeration facilities that use natural refrigerant gas (ammonia and CO2). This decision reflects a commitment to use high-efficiency equipment with low environmental impact. Plans call for the entire roof to be covered in solar panels to generate electricity that will offset a portion of the facility's electricity consumption.

In addition to incorporating as measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 design considerations allowing touchless operation and enhanced ventilation, the multipurpose freezer and refrigeration warehouse will offer various temperature controlled functions, including chilled and frozen storage, thawing, and ripening.

The combined capacity of the Kobe Sumiyoshi Refrigerated Warehouse and the Kobe Uozaki Refrigerated Warehouse will increase JPI's storage capacity 1.5-fold relative to the space available in existing warehouses. In this way, JPI hopes to accommodate the anticipated demand growth.

Through deploying eco-friendly equipment in the updated warehouse and maximizing operational efficiency in conjunction with the Kobe Sumiyoshi Refrigerated Warehouse now in operation and by delivering high quality services to its customers, JPI will contribute to a sustainable society and continue to strengthen its corporate value.
