Kamigumi Launches Silo Storage and Transport Business for Fuel Used in Biomass Power Plants
Kamigumi will launch a silo storage and transport business for the fuel used in biomass power plants.
In April 2017, Mitsubishi Corporation Power Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, together with The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (KEPCO) established a joint venture company called Aioi Bioenergy Corporation. The joint venture is aiming to facilitate the conversion of fuel used at unit 2 of KEPCO's Aioi Power Station to woody biomass, with commercial operations slated to begin in January 2023.
Kamigumi will partner with Aioi Bioenergy Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation, which will supply wood pellets as fuel for the power plant, to provide offloading services for ships importing the wood pellets, silo storage, and domestic transportation to the power plant. Effective October 31, 2018, Kamigumi will newly purchase the facilities of the Kobe Branch of Zen-Noh Silo Corporation and make modifications to these facilities to make them a dedicated fuel supply base.
This will be Kamigumi's first-ever integrated service spanning from unloading services for ships importing biomass fuel to silo storage and delivery to the power plant. Kamigumi will harness its long-standing silo operation know-how to make the preparations ahead of the project's full-scale launch of operations in 2023. Using this project as a stepping stone, Kamigumi will strive to increase its handling of biomass power plant fuels and establish this as a new pillar of business to further increase earnings in the future.
