About Us

Chronology

Learn about Kamigumi's history, from our foundation in 1867 to the present day.

1867 Established as "Kobe Hamanaka"(current Kamigumi Co., Ltd.) by the order to ferry cargoes coming in and out of Unjyo-sho (current Kobe Customs).
1873 Kobe Hamanaka assumed a new name, "Kamigumi", and newly built up a laborer camp in Kobe Foreign Settlement.
1882 Laid down rules regulating the labor camp, which are comparable to mission statement today.
1899 Laid down Nakama Rules (Rules of the trade association).
1906 Incorporated into Kamigumi Goshi Kaisha (limited partnership company).
1911 Laid down Employment Rules.
1919 Authorized as the freight forwarder by The Ministry of Railways.
1925 Moved the Head Office to the current location and completed new office building.
1941 Due to the outbreak of WWII, operations of port and harbor transportation were put under the control of a government enterprise.
1948 After the end of World War ll again entered the comprehensive port transportation business. Changed the trade name to Kamitsu Goshi Kaisha.
1950 Obtained the license for railway freight forwarding business,
Resumed trucking business.
Started warehousing business.
1951 Registered in port transport business and resumed operations.
1952 Named the trade name back to Kamigumi Goshi Kaisha.
1954 Obtained the license to issue W/H warrants.
1961 Reorganized Kamigumi Automobile Division into Kamigumi Land Transport Co., Ltd.
1965 Converted to a joint-stock company.
Changed the company name to the current name, Kamigumi Co., Ltd.
1969 Established Kamigumi Marine Transport Co., Ltd to separate the coastal shipping business.
1971 Listed on the second section of Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange.
1972 Llisted on the first section of Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange.
Established Dodwell Kamigumi Air Cargo Co., Ltd. (current Kamigumi Air Service Co., Ltd.).
1973 Established a representative office in Jakarta, Indonesia.
1979 Started land transportation business.
1982 Established a joint venture, Kamigumi Singapore Pte. Ltd., in Singapore.
1983 Established a joint venture, Kamigumi Multi Trans Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia, current Kamigumi (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.
1985 Established a representative office in Beijing, China. Established Kamigumi (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd.
1988 Established a joint venture, Taiwan Kamigumi Air Freight Co., Ltd. in Taiwan, current Kamigumi (Taiwan) Co., Ltd. Established a joint venture, Thai Logistics Service Co., Ltd., in Thailand.
1991 Established a joint venture, Eastern Sea Laem Chabang Terminal Co., Ltd., in Thailand.
1992 Completed the new head office building.
Completed Tokyo branch office (current Tokyo Head Office).
Established Kamitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. (current Kamix Corp.).
1995 Established a joint venture, Vietnam-Japan International Transport Co., Ltd., in Vietnam.
Established a joint venture, Shanghai Kamigumi Logistics Service Co., Ltd., in China.
1996 Established a joint venture, Tianjin Fengtian Logistics Co., Ltd., in China.
2003 Opened Kamigumi Kobe Container Terminal (KGKT, PC-18) for independent operation.
2004 Opened Kamigumi Tokyo Container Terminal (KGTT, OCB) for independent operation.
Opened Tokyo Head Office.
2010 Established Sunny Place Real Estate Business Department, and it begun real estate business on a full scale.
The subsidiary (Kamix Corp.) acquired all shares in Iwagawa Jozo Co., Ltd.
2011 Established Kamigumi International Forwarding (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in China.
2012 Asia Regional Office (current Global Management Office) in Hong Kong.
2013 Established a joint venture, Kamigumi (Vietnam) Co., Ltd., in Vietnam.
Started a joint venture trucking business in Myanmar.
Established a local subsidiary in Indonesia, Kamigumi Indonesia Co., Ltd.
2014 Converted the joint trucking venture in Myanmar to a combined company, Kamigumi-EFR Logistics Myanmar Co., Ltd.
Established a local subsidiary in Indonesia, Kamigumi Logistics Indonesia Co., Ltd., and began constructing the first private overseas warehouse.
2015 Established a joint venture in Myanmar, Thilawa Global Logistics (Myanmar) Co., Ltd.
Established a local subsidiary in Malaysia, Kamigumi Global Solutions Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
2016 Established a local subsidiary in Mexico, Kamigumi Mexico S.A de C.V.
2017 Celebrated its 150th anniversary
Opened Kamigumi Tokyo Container Terminal (KGTT,Y1) for independent operation.
2018 Acquired a subsidiary MB Service Japan CO., Ltd.(MBSJ), a new vehicle preparation company established by Mercedes - Benz japan Co., Ltd.
Established a local subsidiary in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates(UAE), Kamigumi Middle East L.L.C.
Established a local subsidiary in the United States, Kamigumi USA Inc.
